Injured Newcastle United ace Rob Elliot tells fan projected comeback date

Rob Elliot says he hopes to be back early next season.

Newcastle United suffered an unfortunate blow last month when Rob Elliot suffered a serious knee injury on international duty.

Elliot had impressed after stepping in for Tim Krul, who suffered a similar fate last year, leaving former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow to try and see them through their battle with relegation.

The injury also meant Elliot misses Euro 2016 with Republic of Ireland, where he was in contention for a starting place.

Elliot has been active on social media over the past fortnight, and last night ahead of the Premier League match with Manchester City responded to a supporter to communicate when he hopes to be back.

Elliot also pledged to join supporters for a night on the town... providing the team stay up, if he is in condition to do so by then.

Elliot, 29, is a rarity at Newcastle United as he is a player who will come away from the season with his reputation enhanced, rather than taking a hit, no matter the outcome of their relegation battle.

First choice stopper Tim Krul has a big reputation and may finally seek to move on, and Elliot has a real chance of nailing down the position if Darlow does not make big progress himself, and he can recover from injury without delay and complication.
