Frank Arnesen discloses what Christian Eriksen told him two months into Mauricio Pochettino's reign

The Dane said he had never been more tired than after his start with Poch.

Tottenham Hotspur closed the gap on Premier League leaders Leicester City this week, with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Stoke City.

Spurs were certainly not expected to put in a title challenge this season but the management of Mauricio Pochettino is paying dividends at the club.

The Argentine is known for working his players hard in training and is reaping the rewards on the weekends.

Frank Arnesen has commented on the Pochettino regime and suggested that Christian Eriksen has never worked so hard.

Arnesen, a former sporting director at Tottenham Hotspur, is a Dane just like Eriksen and told Omnisport this week about how Eriksen spoke to him when first adapting to Poch’s methods – but the Dane can now see the benefits:

“I must say I am surprised about Tottenham. They have done so well because they have also a lot of young players. They brought Alli in, Eriksen who is still only 23-years-old, Harry Kane who came from nowhere.

“Pochettino, he has done fantastic work. The way he is training is very, very demanding. I spoke to Christian Eriksen about it and he said I have never been so tired in my life after the first two months and was not very good last year in the first two months.

“But you can see, I watched the game against Stoke, they won 4-0. It’s unbelievable the way they are playing football. It would be a fantastic achievement (if they win the league).”

Eriksen has certainly become a more complete player under Pochettino. In the past he had a reputation for being slightly mercurial but now the former Ajax man always puts a shift in for Spurs.

The training regime took its toll on Spurs at times last season but now it is clearly benefitting the players in playing the Pochettino way.
