Everton fans baffled by latest Martinez comments, react accordingly on Twitter

The Toffees manager claimed the club's away form was Champions League standard.

Another week, another bizarre press conference involving Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who told reporters his side's away form is of Champions League standard.

Even for a man who once described Gareth Barry as 'one of the best English players ever', said there was 'no better English player' than Tom Cleverley, and made Leighton Baines apologise for comments that Martinez claimed had been misinterpreted, that's pretty spectacular.

Everton are currently seventh in the Premier League's on-the-road table, and while they may be only a win at Anfield away from backing up the Spaniard's assertion, that's not really the point - and they've still only won five times away from home this season.

That's just one more than they've managed at Goodison Park, where they've suffered their worst ever season and their form would put them 18th in the home standings.

The Toffees haven't won a league game anywhere since 1 March and are winless in five in all competitions, increasing the pressure on Martinez.

And the former Wigan boss's latest comments have done little to restore faith in his management, ahead of a seismic week in the club's season.
