Are Tottenham about to sign their own Kevin de Bruyne?

Andre Schurrle Germany

Tottenham are pushing for Andre Schurrle, and can embarrass Chelsea in the process.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Andre Schurrle from Wolfsburg, The Mirror reported yesterday - and it is a potential deal which can embarrass Chelsea.

The Blues were on the receiving end of a 3-0 beating at Stamford Bridge at the weekend at the hands of Manchester City, inspired by Kevin de Bruyne, a player they sold after failing to hand him regular chances.

Schurrle was sold by Chelsea months after De Bruyne, and it would certainly be uncomfortable for the west London side to see him playing for Tottenham next season, especially so if they are defending the Premier League title.

The German international is a World Cup winner who has 20 goals at international level, but is claimed by The Mirror to be keen on a move back to England, London specifically, with talks between parties involved in the deal already underway.

Schurrle would be an excellent signing for Spurs, and would compete with Erik Lamela for a position out wide, while also able to cover up front for Harry Kane, although the club should still push for another striker.

He has Premier League experience, and as De Bruyne has proved, a desire to prove a point to the club who cast him aside can be very inspiring, and valuable for the team who sign him.

Schurrle, 25, was essentially confined to a squad player at Chelsea, making just five starts in the league in the first half of the 2014/15 season before leaving in January.

In 2013/14 he made only 15 starts, with another 15 appearances from the bench.

He could be a very valuable player for Tottenham who would add to their quality ahead of next season's Champions League adventure, and the chance to have him be successful at Chelsea's expense only makes it better.
