The Magpies will take on City at home in the Premier League, and former Newcastle striker Owen has backed Rafael Benitez’s side to find the net at St. James’ Park.
The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker, though, expects Newcastle to find it tough to win against Manuel Pellegrini’s team this evening.
“City looked good against a disappointing Chelsea side at the Bridge last weekend, but the Magpies are fighting for their Premier League lives and gained a confidence-boosting win against Swansea at St James’s Park,” Owen wrote on Betvictor.com.
“That said they are likely to find the Champions League semi-finalists a different proposition although I feel the Magpies will, also, find the back of the net.”
A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Both teams to score at 7/10.”
Newcastle have been scoring goals in recent matches, and given that City are vulnerable defensively, the Magpies should be able to find the net at least once this evening.
The problem is that the Citizens have a terrifying strike-force and should be able to score more than once at St. James’ Park.
The way City dismantled Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London at the weekend should be a warning to Newcastle.
Pellegrini’s team will head into the match against the Magpies as favourites, and it is hard to see them lose. The most that Newcastle can hope for this evening is a point.
