Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy made an interesting observation about Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 18).
Murphy stated that the Serbia international striker has a better impact when he comes off the substitutes’ bench than when he starts.
The former England international also suggested that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez faces a dilemma whether or not to start the 21-year-old against Manchester City in the Premier League game at St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening.
“The last few performances from Mitrovic have been really good when he has come off the bench and made the difference,” said Murphy on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 18). “When he starts, he doesn’t quite have the same impact, does he? So it’s a dilemma.”
Mitrovic scored two goals for Newcastle against fellow relegation candidates Norwich City away from home at Carrow Road in the Premier League at the start of April after coming off the substitutes’ bench.
The former Anderlecht youngster has scored eight goals and created 25 chances in 29 league matches for the Magpies so far this season.
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 28 points from 33 matches.
