Everton will face Liverpool and Manchester United in their next two matches.
Andy Gray suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 18) that Everton manager Roberto Martinez should play his best available team against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby this week.
Everton will take on Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
With Martinez’s side having nothing to play in the league this season, the FA Cup tie against United is more important than the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
While many will suggest that the Blues should rest key players against the Reds in order to keep them fresh for the clash against the Red Devils, former Everton striker Gray believes that Martinez should field his strongest team in both the matches.
“I would go full strength for both games,” said the former Scotland international on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 18) while discussing Everton’s matches against Liverpool and United.
“What is the point? You have got four weeks to go until the end of the season. What is the point in not picking the strongest team for both of these games?”
Everton are not expected to win against either Liverpool or United this week, but perhaps they could go on to beat both of them if they field their strongest available lineups.
