Why Celtic's struggles could be very bad news for Aston Villa

David Moyes Interview - 23/02/2014

Celtic and Aston Villa may both need a new manager next season.

According to Sky Bet, David Moyes is one of the frontrunners to get the Aston Villa job next season.

The Scot is defence minded, has plenty of experience in Britain and is well liked by most who aren't Manchester United or Real Sociedad fans...

However, Oddschecker suggest Moyes is also the favourite for the Celtic job. And, with the Bhoys, the odds suggest he is a clear favourite.

So could Celtic's struggles be very bad news for Aston Villa?

The Midlands club need all their options open to them and there are a considerable amount of supporters who would view Moyes as their first choice for the manager's job.

Of course, Villa may still have Nigel Pearson if Moyes is off the market.

But they can't afford to take any chances. What if Pearson were also to be offered a better job elsewhere?

For Moyes, Celtic would present a very appealing prospect. Aston Villa are struggling but the Bhoys are struggling by their standards and need picking up.

That picking up, though, comes with the opportunity to play European football and win trophies. Moyes could achieve genuine success at Celtic and, even if Peter Lawwell doesn't afford him much of a transfer budget, it looks like he would be by far the lesser of two evils compared to Aston Villa's hierarchy...
