Rafa Benitez has called on winger Andros Townsend to realise how good he is as the Newcastle United boss claims the winger can make the difference in the race for survival, the ePlayer video shows.
Newcastle boosted their survival hopes after they defeated Swansea City 3-0 last weekend.
The Magpies now sit just three points behind Norwich City and safety, and victory over Manchester City on Tuesday will momentarily see them leapfrog the Canaries and move out of the drop zone.
The task of beating City will of course be tough, but Newcastle have improved of late and in particular winger Andros Townsend was instrumental during his side’s win over Swansea on Saturday.
Talking ahead of the game, boss Rafa Benitez feels Townsend can do even more as he calls on the winger to realise his own ability and make the difference between now and the end of the season.
“I think he can score more goals and he has to realise how good he is because he has the ability and the quality to get in to the box and make the difference,” Benitez told ePlayer.
“The main thing for me with Andros is he has to realise he is really good and he can make the difference.”
Townsend scored and applied an assist against the Swans, yet it wasn’t just his play going forward which impressed viewers but also his ability to track back and defend when necessary.
The England international has the tools in his locker to become a real match-winner, and Newcastle will need him to provide his best as the Magpies look to pull off an unlikely escape from relegation.
The Tyneside club have Crystal Palace and Aston Villa still to play, two games they really ought to win.
