Middlesbrough had two representatives in the Team of the Year.

Aitor Karanka says 11 Middlesbrough players should have been in the Football League Team of the Year following the results published over the weekend, the Gazette Live report.

Boro have two players who made the Football League best XI for this season, defenders George Friend and Daniel Ayala following the duo’s contributions to the club’s superb defensive record.

But Karanka felt the decision was harsh on a number of his players who missed out, and when asked to give his opinion on how many Boro players should have made the team, the Spanish coach said all 11.

“For me, that XI should have been 11 players from Middlesbrough. All of them are doing an amazing job and all of them deserved to be in that team,” the former Real Madrid defender explained to the Gazette Live.

Boro head in to the final few matches of the season topping the Championship table by three points.

After a terrible run of form in February, Boro have since won six league games on the bounce with incredibly three of those victories coming virtue of a stoppage-time winner.

The omens are seemingly with the Teesside club, and three victories in the next four matches would guarantee promotion back to the Premier League after a number of years out of the top-flight.

Burnley and Brighton are the two teams challenging, and interestingly enough, Karanka’s men face them both in the next four games starting with a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Tuesday night.
