Hoddle explains why West Ham's Dimitri Payet deserves Player of the Year

Payet Skill

Glenn Hoddle is a big fan of West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet.

Former player Glenn Hoddle suggests West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet should be named Player of the Year due to his ability to combine efficiency with entertainment, he told the Daily Mail.

The Hammers’ play-maker has been short-listed for the end-of-season gong alongside the likes of Leicester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy as well as Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

While each player has a strong case to win the award, Hoddle is backing the talented Payet as he labels the France international the player you would pay to watch most of all.

“It is so hard to choose a player of the year this season. For me, Riyad Mahrez has been the most effective. But Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane have also been phenomenal,” Hoddle told the Daily Mail.

“And then there is the player who has got you out of your seat and entertained you the most this season. And that has to be West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. He is the player you would pay to watch most of all.”

Payet joined West Ham from Marseille last summer, a deal which caused a bit of controversy as many French media outlets could not understand why he would leave a club in Europe for a mid-table English side.

But nobody is questioning the deal now as Slaven Bilic’s side challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League and are set to move into their new 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium next term.

Payet, 29, has made 26 league appearances this season, scoring nine goals and adding eight assists.
