Liverpool not interested in top four, says manager Jurgen Klopp

J├╝rgen Klopp thinking

The Reds are currently nine points outside of the Champions League places.

Liverpool are not interested in dreaming about the top four at this moment in time, manager Jurgen Klopp has told talkSPORT.

The Reds were 2-1 winners over Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon, with goals from Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge seeing them to victory.

That result capped off an excellent week for them following their progression past Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday.

They are now up to 8th in the Premier League and just a point outside of the top six, with the top four a nine points away.

With a game in hand though, that gap could be reduced to six points if they can win that, but Klopp insists that they are not interested in the top four at present.

“We’re not interested [in the top four], really,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’m interested in the moment when we are close enough to see it’s a possibility. We don’t want to dream about it.”

It is easy to imagine that Liverpool are not focusing on the league now given their hopes in the Europa League.

They are through to the semi finals of that competition after their win over Dortmund, with them set to face La Liga side Villarreal for a place in the final.

After knocking out the Germans, the Reds are arguably now one of the favourites and will surely be determined to go on and win the trophy to secure the Champions League place afforded to the winners.
