Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, April 16) that West Ham United should make a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer transfer window.
The Sweden international striker is on the books of Paris Saint-Germain at the moment, but he will become a free agent at the end of the season when his current contract runs out.
Nicholas believes that West Ham should make a move for the 34-year-old at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, and has also suggested another area of the squad that the Premier League outfit need to strengthen for the 2016-17 season - defence.
“I would go after him (Ibrahimovic) personally, that’s only my opinion on that,” said the former Scotland international on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, April 16).
“I would think Bilic would be a guy that would look at maybe another defender and probably a centre-forward who could probably guarantee them goals.”
Ibrahimovic is one of the best strikers in the world and is one of the very few footballers who have actually become better with age.
It is hard to see the former AC Milan and Barcelona star joining West Ham at the end of the season, though, as he is likely to get offers from bigger clubs in the summer transfer window.
