Report: Chelsea interested in Leeds United ace Lewis Cook, why Championship club should be worried

Lewis Cook

Chelsea are reportedly battling Bournemouth to sign Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook.

Chelsea have joined the chase to sign talented teenager Lewis Cook, The Mail reported at the weekend.

The Blues are claimed to have scouted the Leeds United midfielder this season, with Bournemouth and Manchester United also holding an interest.

Cook added to his glowing reputation by following in the footsteps of Dele Alli, Gareth Bale and Nathaniel Clyne by winning the Football League's Young Player of the Year Award.

This will have him on the radar of every Premier League club in England, as if he was not already highly coveted, and with one year left remaining on his contract, the vultures appear to already be circling.

While Leeds fan Cook's ideal scenario is to achieve success with the club, their mid-table Championship status does little for him, and it is clear already he can play at the top level.

Chelsea this season have been criticised in the press for scouting Dele Alli at MK Dons but failing to push for a deal, and it is for this reason that they are likely to give Cook extra consideration, to avoid another transfer blunder.

The Sun ridiculed their 'amazing snub' of Alli' earlier this year, while The Mail described it as a breakdown of their scouting system, reporting that the Blues were regretting not signing the teenager.

Alli's success at Spurs was clearly embarrassing for Spurs and having done their due diligence on Cook, do Chelsea dare risk allowing the outstanding talent of Cook slip the net and end up elsewhere again?

It is for this reason particularly that Leeds should be especially worried that Chelsea have popped up on the list of suitors for their outstanding talent.
