Newcastle United finally managed to get a victory in their match against Swansea City.
Newcastle fans have been very frustrated by their side’s failure to perform to the best of their abilities this season.
However, they stuck with their side throughout the crucial match at St. James’ Park, and they helped them pick up the three points.
There were a few nervy moments during the contest, especially towards the end of the second half, when Swansea started to put some pressure on, but Newcastle’s supporters continued to vocally back their side.
And their support was rewarded, as late goals from Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend completed the triumph, after Jamaal Lascelles had put them in front.
“Thank you to the fans. If we stick together then it’s easier for us to approach the game and gives us the chance to win,” Benitez said.
“The players that started were really good.
“And the other players who came on helped the team.
“We saw what we expect from this team – we have to show the same in the other games.”
Newcastle’s win over Swansea was their first in eight matches, and it has boosted their hopes of survival.
The Magpies are now just three points adrift of safety, and they have a game in hand over 17th placed Norwich City.
Newcastle’s next match comes against Manchester City at St. James’ Park tomorrow.
