Jamie Redknapp has written in The Daily Mail that Liverpool need to sign two or three new players in the summer transfer window in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been impressed with the recent performances of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“Given the players he already has, Klopp may only need to buy two or three for Liverpool to really challenge next year,” wrote Redknapp in The Daily Mail while analysing Liverpool’s back-to-back wins against Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth.
Liverpool are in good form at the moment and their recent results have indeed been encouraging, but that does not mean that two or three new players in the summer would be enough for the Reds to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Reds have a largely average squad, and it is a credit to Klopp that he is getting the best out of the players he has at his disposal at the moment.
For the Merseyside outfit to challenge the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title next season, they need better players.
It cannot be denied that Liverpool have been inconsistent under Klopp and have not always played well against teams they should have won against.
Moreover, would the Reds really be able to challenge for the league title next season? Shouldn’t Liverpool’s main target during the 2016-17 campaign be to finish in the top four?
