Ian Wright criticises Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko

Newcastle United are currently sat in 19th place in the Premier League table.

Ian Wright has told The Sun Goals Podcast that Moussa Sissoko has been Newcastle United’s biggest underachiever this season.

Sissoko has disappointed Newcastle fans with his infrequent performances throughout the campaign.

The Frenchman can be one of Newcastle’s most dangerous players on his day, but he has often been on the periphery of matches this season.

And Wright said: “Sissoko, for me, has been one of their biggest underachievers this season. He’s got amazing ability.”

Sissoko was actually handed Newcastle’s captain’s armband in their latest outing and he responded to the increased pressure well.

The powerful midfielder put in a good performance and got on the scoresheet, as Newcastle beat Swansea City 3-0.

Andros Townsend also scored in the victory at St. James’ Park, and Wright moved to praise the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

“Andros has been has a shining light,” the former Arsenal striker added. “He’s been very positive and is playing with tempo and verve. He’s doing his best. If Newcastle do go down, they’re talking about him leaving!”

Newcastle’s win over Swansea has put them back into the thick of the survival fight, and they are now much closer to safety.

The Magpies are currently stationed just three points behind 17th placed Norwich City, and they have a game in hand over Alex Neil’s side.
