Harry Redknapp says Sunderland midfielder’s a proper leader, raves about 22-year-old Newcastle player

Both Newcastle United and Sunderland won in the Premier League at the weekend.

Former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has written in The Telegraph that Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles looks like a bright prospect.

Redknapp has included the the 22-year-old defender in his Premier League Team of the Weekend for The Telegraph.

The former Nottingham Forest youngster was impressive during the Magpies’ 3-0 victory over Swansea City at home in the Premier League at the weekend.

Besides looking strong in defence on Saturday afternoon, the English youngster opened the scoring in the 40th minute

Redknapp was impressed with the shift put in by Lascelles and has spoken highly about him in The Telegraph.

The former Southampton boss has also picked Sunderland defensive midfielder Lee Cattermole in his Premier League Team of the Weekend for The Telegraph for his performance in the 3-0 victory over fellow relegation candidates Norwich City away from home at Carrow Road.

“It was a huge weekend for Sunderland and Newcastle, and I was so impressed with the work their players put in when they really needed to,” Redknapp wrote in The Telegraph.

“Lee Cattermole is a proper leader and Jamaal Lascelles is still young but growing in confidence and looks a bright prospect.”

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia, Crystal Palace’s Damien Delaney, West Ham United left-back Aaron Cresswell, Leicester City midfielder N'Golo Kante, Sunderland striker Fabio Borini, Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, and Newcastle winger Andros Townsend also find themselves in Redknapp’s team.
