Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton has revealed his admiration of Everton defender John Stones to The Times.
The former Manchester United prospect, now on the books of Championship side Burnley, believes that Stones is an outstanding centre-back and has predicted a bright future for the 21-year-old, who can also play as a right-back.
“You have that defensive responsibility first and foremost but if you can add that composure - and Stones is probably one of the best I’ve seen on the ball — it can only be good,” Heaton told The Times.
“It’s about balance and when not to take too many risks. He’s defensively outstanding as well. He’ll be an incredible centre half for years to come.”
Stones is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League at the moment, but he has been criticised by many for taking too much time on the ball.
The England international is very comfortable on the ball and likes to play it from the back, and this has created problems in the Toffees’ defence from time to time this season.
The youngster has created four chances in 28 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside outfit so far this campaign.
Stones has a pass accuracy of 89% and a shot accuracy of 14%, and has won 45 headers, 21 dribbles and 34 tackles.
The 21-year-old is still learning, but he has shown enough promise for Everton fans to retain their faith in him.
