Birmingham City fan Troy Deeney makes claim about Aston Villa players on Twitter

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Birmingham City fan and Watford striker Troy Deeney has been speaking in the wake Aston Villa's relegation from the Premier League.

Villa's fate was finally sealed when they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Watford and star striker Deeney played out a 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion to lift them to 12th in the table on 41 points.

It has been a fantastic return to the top flight for the Hornets this season with a trip to Wembley to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals on the horizon this weekend.

Birmingham-born Deeney, who grew up supporting Villa's bitter rivals Birmingham City but came through the Villains' academy, has some strong opinions about the football landscape in his home city.

'I can't say they would improve us'

And in a string of messages on social networking site Twitter, Deeney has claimed that very few of Villa's players would improve Watford's squad this summer.

Asked by a fan whether he would take any of Villa's players in the Watford squad next season, Deeney responded with a damning verdict.

"Maybe two or three, can't say they would improve the first 11 but squad players 100%."

Villa have been panned by fans and pundits all season for their shambolic performances.

Supporters fear their squad will not even be good enough to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League in a hugely competitive Championship next season.

Deeney comments show how far Villa have fallen

And Deeney's comments show just how far Villa have fallen that he feels only two or three would make it into the Vicarage Road outfit's squad just a season after they themselves were promoted from the second tier.

The striker, who has 10 goals this season, did not go into detail about which players he feels would improve Quique Sánchez Flores' squad.

And whether the Spaniard would want to bring in players with such a dismal relegation on their CV is another thing entirely.
