BBC pundit says this January signing is having a positive effect at Newcastle

Andros Townsend

Trevor Sinclair was impressed with Andros Townsend’s performance for Newcastle United against Swansea City at the weekend.

Former Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United winger Trevor Sinclair said on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:25pm, April 16) that Andros Townsend is having a positive effect on Newcastle United.

Townsend joined Newcastle from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

The England international winger was struggling to get into the team at Tottenham, but he has established himself as an important player for the relegation-threatened Magpies.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals and created 20 chances in eight Premier League appearances for Newcastle so far this season.

One of those goals came against Swansea City at the weekend, as Rafael Benitez’s side returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 home victory.

Sinclair was impressed with the performance of Townsend at St. James’ Park and spoke highly of the Englishman on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:25pm, April 16).

“I think there's special praise for Andros Townsend,” said Sinclair on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:25pm, April 16).

“He has scored three and set up two in the last six games, so he is having a positive effect since coming to Newcastle.”

Newcastle will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Manchester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
