The Frenchman has undoubtedly been one of the stars of this Premier League season.
The 29-year-old has unquestionably been one of the most exciting players in the league this season, so it was perhaps no surprise to see him recently linked with a move back to Ligue 1, with the Daily Star reporting that Paris Saint-Germain were interested.
But in an interview with Premier League legend Thierry Henry, Payet issued an emphatic response when asked whether he will be a Hammer for a long time to come.
"Yes, because I never could have imagined experiencing a year quite like this one," he told Sky Sports.
"Things are going well and I'm enjoying it. The team is good, we have a great coach and the fans are amazing, so I want to go far with this club because I'm in this position thanks to them offering the best possible conditions for me to express myself on the pitch."
While those inside the club would have probably known whether the Frenchman wanted to stay or not anyway, the fact that he has publicly committed his long-term future to the club should provide the whole place with a massive lift.
The former Marseille man has scored nine goals and contributed eight assists in the top flight this term, and the excitement that sweeps the Boleyn Ground when he gets onto the ball is arguably like nothing that has been seen since Paolo Di Canio was in his prime.
Slaven Bilic would have surely felt that keeping Payet would be essential if the team wish to enjoy another successful campaign next year. And with the move into the Olympic Stadium just around the corner, Payet's desire to stay shows to potential targets that the club is moving forward both off and on the pitch.
