Lucas Leiva praises Liverpool youngsters after Bournemouth win

Manager Jurgen Klopp named several young star for the win over the Cherries.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has praised the club’s youngsters, speaking to BBC Sport, following the win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Reds ran out 2-1 winners on the south coast, as goals from Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge saw them to victory.

The result was the latest in a series of positive ones in recent weeks, taking them to within a point of the top six in the Premier League.

Manager Jurgen Klopp opted to make a number of changes to his side for the game, with ten in total, as he opted to give several youngsters a run out.

And Lucas has praised the kids, saying they will get more chances in future if they are patient.

“We made a lot of changes and the manager felt he needed to give a chance to some young players,” he told BBC Sport.

"I think they (the debutants) all did very well. It's not so easy when you make so many changes.”

“We showed in this game we have a strong squad and the manager believes in everyone. Their chance will come, they just need to be patient and work."

Jurgen Klopp will certainly have been impressed by the performances of his young stars in the game.

In particular goalkeeper Danny Ward will have caught the eye, with one top save in particular having earned him the plaudits.

The young ‘keeper has had to wait for his chance at the club since returning from a loan spell at Aberdeen, but will certainly have left the German with plenty to ponder following this display.
