Kevin de Bruyne an upgrade on David Silva, says Trevor Sinclair

The midfielder was in impressive form in the 3-0 win over Chelsea.

Kevin de Bruyne is an upgrade on Manchester City stalwart on David Silva, Trevor Sinclair has told Match of the Day, broadcast from 10:20pm on April 16.

The Belgian youngster has proved to be an impressive signing this season with a series of top performances since his move from Wolfsburg.

He was sorely missed in the middle of the campaign as he picked up a long-term injury and spent a spell on the sidelines.

He has since returned and played his part in impressive wins against PSG the Champions League and then Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

One man who has been impressed is former City player Trevor Sinclair, who says De Bruyne is proving to be an upgrade on David Silva.

“He’s had a monumental impact since arriving at Manchester City,” he told Match of the Day.

“A lot of people pointed the finger at Manuel Pellegrini saying he lost the dressing room when the Pep Guardiola story was released, but for me it was this guy’s injury.

“He’s got everything, and I never thought I’d say this, you’ve got David Silva, but this boy’s an upgrade on him. He scores more, he assists more and he’s more of an athlete.”

De Bruyne has certainly been impressive for City this season despite his side’s overall failure to impress.

Nobody is now questioning the large price tag that brought him to the club, with many even believing he could be worth more than that following his first year in England.

And if he can prove to be a long-term replacement for Silva at the club, there is no denying it will be regarded as money well spent by all parties.
