The holding midfielder joined Villa from Lille last summer, signing a four-year deal with the club.
But his debut campaign in the Premier League hasn’t gone to plan, with Aston Villa’s relegation to the Championship confirmed this weekend as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.
Gueye, one of Villa’s better performers, has been linked with a summer move to Marseille but his agent has ruled that out with the Premier League and the Bundesliga the preferred option.
“He will definitely play in the Premier League or the Bundesliga next season,” the midfielder’s agent told reporters for Tuttomercatoweb when asked of a potential switch to Marseille.
The Senegal international has been only one of a few bright sparks for Villa this season, averaging an impressive 4.2 tackles and 4.4 interceptions per Premier League encounter.
Gueye has largely been let down by a number of Villa problems off the field and a selection of his team-mates vastly under-performing over the curse of the campaign.
Two managers have already been sacked at Villa Park this season, while players have come in for huge amounts of abuse from the club’s supporters as they show a lack of pride.
The fans will not be too pleased to see Gueye’s agent plotting a move away from Villa Park, but it’s understandable as the midfielder is without doubt a cut above Championship level.
