Newcastle players react to victory over Swansea including Perez, Wijnaldum and Townsend

Newcastle United had a weekend to remember for all the right reasons.

Newcastle United earned a massive three points on Saturday afternoon as they overcame Swansea City 3-0 at St James’ Park.

The Magpies went into the match knowing nothing but a victory would do after seeing Sunderland thrash Norwich City by the same score-line earlier in the day, and their fans had plenty to cheer about for a change after goals from Jamaal Lascelles, Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend eased the pressure on the club.

After the match a number of Newcastle’s players took to Twitter to celebrate, including scorers Lascelles and Townsend.

“Very important three points,” Townsend wrote. “One down, five to go. Massive week ahead. Nice to score first SJP goal as well.”

Lascelles, who has been thrust into the first-team this season due to a spate of injuries to more experienced colleagues, said simply, “We fight again Tuesday.”

That is when Newcastle take on Manchester City in another huge clash, but at least Rafa Benitez’s men go into that game knowing they still have their fate very much in their own hands with plenty of football still to be played.
