The goalkeeper is currently out with a serious knee injury.
Newcastle United have not been blessed in terms of injuries this season, in particular in the goalkeeping department.
Tim Krul suffered serious knee ligament damage on international duty with Holland earlier in the season and then Republic of Ireland stopper Rob Elliot did the same.
The Irishman had been one of the club’s better players this season and his absence was a fear factor for Newcastle fans.
At the moment Elliot is simply recovering from the injury and will be looking to the future regarding his potential return to first-team action.
But at least former Newcastle players are coming to his aid.
The goalie posted this message on his official Twitter account earlier today, showing a present he had received from former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi:
Get well present from big Shola!!! pic.twitter.com/22iBaaonVz— Robert Elliot (@the_dilsh) April 17, 2016
Ameobi, who is currently signed on at Fleetwood Town, is of course a former Newcastle United team-mate of Elliot’s.
Elliot’s absence will be keenly felt but in his place Karl Darlow has performed well so far and the former Nottingham Forest star will be hoping this is his opportunity to prove himself at a Premier League level.
