So Celtic's double dream is over.
For all the talk of just how many goals the Bhoys would score against Rangers, Ronny Deila's men flattered to deceive once again on the big occasion.
And Chris Waddle was delighted, more or less coming out as a Rangers fan on social media if anyone wasn't sure.
He celebrated on Twitter and joked that even his dog is a Gers supporter:
Things look ominous for Celtic when it comes to next season. If Rangers can beat them (albeit on penalties) now, the Gers could do even better next season in the Scottish Premiership.
The Bhoys may fare better without Deila, of course, as his record in big games is becoming nothing short of horrendous at Parkhead.
There's been enough talk of defending the Norwegian - and enough inaction when it comes to his future. But things are simple for Celtic now.
The club either replace Deila, or they don't move forward. It really is that straightforward.
