The Black Cats were 3-0 winners in a huge win at the bottom of the table.
The Black Cats travelled to Carrow Road in Saturday’s early kick off in what was a huge clash at the bottom of the table.
It was Sunderland who proved victorious, winning the game 3-0 to go within a point of their relegation rivals with a game in hand.
The clean sheet was just their fifth all season, and as far as Allardyce was concerned, it was key to their much-needed victory.
“We’ve closed that gap and there’s still a game in hand and that all-important clean sheet was the key element for our victory today,” BBC Sport reports him saying.
"Counter-attacking football with quality goals at the end of it and it could have been more. It’s a fantastic 3-0 win for us without us playing all that well.”
"Playing well doesn’t matter, all that matters is results and it’s a big, big win. Hopefully it’ll spur us on to other victories because we need it to be safe.”
Even better news for Sunderland was that they managed to Jermain Defoe on the score sheet once again.
The striker has been in impressive form this season despite his side’s struggles, with him currently their top goalscorer.
Recent weeks had seem him struggling for goals though in a short drought that has seriously hampered his team’s efforts to avoid the drop.
That was ended against the Canaries though, and Allardyce will be hoping he can add a few more before the season draws to a close.
