Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Callum Burton is being linked with a host of clubs this month. The 19-year-old England youth international has been in top form and as HITC reported recently the likes of Aston Villa, Rangers, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley are all interested in the player.
His contract with Shrewsbury expires this summer and Aston Villa, Rangers, Wolves and Burnley are all said to be hoping that he will decide to head out from New Meadow in the summer.
But Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon has been discussing his future this week and confirmed his plans to keep hold of the player despite the interest from such big clubs.
He told the Shropshire Star this week:
“There are no plans to get rid of him and nothing’s happened.
“It’s just something that happens at Shrewsbury, so I’m not surprised or flattered by it.
“But I’m keen for fans to know we’re not a breeding club for everyone. We’re trying to build a team to be proud of.”
Burton, who has been compared to former Shrewsbury star and current England number one Joe Hart, has yet to feature for Shrewsbury’s first-team but has spent time out on loan at the likes of Southport, Nuneaton Town and Workington.
Aston Villa, Rangers, Wolves and Burnley will obviously be hoping to turn the head of this talented young English stopper – who faces a real challenge trying to usurp the likes of Jason Leutwiler and Mark Halstead from the number one spot at the League One side.
