The Foxes have experienced a remarkable past 12 months, first escaping relegation last season against the odds before mounting unbelievable an Premier League title charge this campaign.
With just five games remaining, Leicester hold a seven-point gap over second place Tottenham Hotspur while favourites Manchester City are a whopping 15 points adrift back in fourth spot.
Commenting on the East Midlands club’s unlikely title quest, Fernandinho admits Leicester would be worthy winners as he praises the club’s consistent performances throughout the season.
“If we compare Leicester’s budget with the top five or six teams in the league then of course it’s different. The main difference with Leicester this year compared to last time is the coach they hired,” he said.
“If Leicester do become the English champions as everyone is expecting them to do, it will be deserved because they’re a team that kept a high level of performance throughout the whole season.”
In a season where City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all faltered, many expected Arsenal to take advantage as they led the table heading in to the New Year.
However, Leicester have been on a superb run of form and backed by a stern defence they’ve managed to win six of their last seven league games without conceding a single goal.
Back-to-back home games against West Ham United and Swansea City now await them, and on current form you wouldn’t bet against Claudio Ranieri’s side taking maximum points.
