Grant Holt reacts on Twitter to Villa's relegation, makes Paul Lambert claim

The former Aston Villa striker has taken to social media after the inevitable was confirmed.

Grant Holt took to Twitter on Saturday evening to offer his commiserations to former club Aston Villa as their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

However, he feels fans may now reconsider their views about Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert.

Indeed, the striker believes Villa supporters could now feel as though Lambert should have stayed at the club.

The 35-year-old is entitled to his opinion, of course, but keeping Lambert wouldn't have changed a thing. That's certainly how many Aston Villa fans see it.

The problems lie with Randy Lerner and those around him. Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde weren't exactly inspired replacements for Lambert but, under the Scot, Villa were sliding further and further downhill.

It's not as if Lambert didn't play his part in Villa's decline.

That said, he - just like his successors - had his hands tied by an owner and a hierarchy who refused to spend money. But, even when they did spend it, they didn't spend it wisely.
