Aston Villa's relegation to the Championship was confirmed earlier today after a 1-0 defeat away to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Villa went into the game knowing that anything other than a win would see them drop out of the Premier League, and Marcus Rashford's winning goal consigned them to the second tier.
It's been a dismal season for Villa, winning just three Premier League games and spending most of the season rooted to the bottom of the table.
Neither Tim Sherwood or Remi Garde could enjoy lasting success at Villa Park this season, and after Garde's departure last month, the club will be looking for a new manager this summer to try and navigate their way through the Championship next season.
The concern for fans is that a number of clubs have not only suffered relegation to the Championship, but also on to League One too. The likes of Coventry City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all spent time in League One since dropping from the Premier League, and many are concerned that Villa could go the same way.
After the final whistle at Old Trafford, pundit and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker took to Twitter to admit that Villa's relegation is 'sad', but did offer a supportive message to the club, claiming he wants to see the club bounce back to the Premier League soon.
Sad to see a great club like Aston Villa relegated so apathetically. Hope they bounce back soon.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 16, 2016
Do you think Villa will win promotion next season?
