The former striker is however backing Jurgen Klopp's side to win the game.
They will now face La Liga side Villarreal in the last four as they seek to go on and win the tournament to gain the Champions League place that the winners are awarded.
The draw has been seen as a good one by the Liverpool faithful, especially after avoiding holders Sevilla, but Morientes has warned his old side about the danger that Villarreal possess.
He does however; believe that it will be Jurgen Klopp’s side that will win the tie in the end.
"Villarreal is one of the best teams in La Liga at the moment," Morientes told Sky Sports News HQ.
"They play very good football. They have a very strong mentality and the coach always tries to attack. It's always the same.
"But it's the same with Liverpool they always try to score the goal that will win them the match. Villarreal are a very good team and I think next year they will play in the Champions League for sure.”
The clash with Villarreal certainly looks to be an exciting one given the attacking potential of both sides.
Liverpool’s hopes will surely be built on how their defence can fare, with Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho sure to be key to the game again.
They will certainly hope for an easier game than they managed against Borussia Dortmund’s front line at Anfield, with them having enjoyed themselves despite the end result.
