Eric Black suggests fan criticism won’t stop him from selecting Aston Villa's Leandro Bacuna

Aston Villa’s Leandro Bacuna has come in for criticism.

Aston Villa’s caretaker boss Eric Black suggests that fan criticism of Leandro Bacuna won’t stop him from selecting the versatile player as he seeks positive results, the Mirror reports.

Bacuna featured in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend and a certain sector of the Villa Park crowd made him well aware of what they think of his performances for the club this season.

The 24-year-old simply hasn’t been good enough, and his recent comments about wanting to play for a Champions League club did little to repair the growing animosity between the fans and players.

Yet, when questioned on whether Bacuna will feature again between now and the summer, Black suggests he will play any of the Villa players if he feels they are the best candidate for the job.

“If I think he’s the best player to play in a certain position I’m going to play him because I want to try to get a result,” the caretaker boss told reporters for the Mirror.

Bacuna has made 26 Premier League appearances this season, averaging 1.5 tackles per league match.

The Holland international has hinted at a possible return to his homeland, where a switch to either Ajax or PSV Eindhoven could be more tempting than a return to the Premier League with another club.

With Villa enduring such a poor season in the Premier League, there probably aren’t many players in the current squad that the fans would be disappointed to see leave this summer.
