The 26-year-old midfielder hasn't impressed all season and Villa fans were underwhelmed again by his performance v Manchester United.
The resonance of Aston Villa's relegation has been well documented. It's simply astounding that a club of that size and stature is going down.
And yet it's no surprise - and something that seems to have been coming for a number of years now.
However, focus now duly turns to which of Villa's current squad can survive - and hopefully thrive - in the Championship.
Villa only lost 1-0 at Manchester United. When you consider they've lost 6-0 at home, a one-goal loss at Old Trafford certainly isn't too bad.
But several performances still underwhelmed the Aston Villa fans. As ever, Ashley Westwood was one of them. And there's a very real fear from supporters that the 26-year-old midfielder just won't be up to it even in the Championship.
The midfielder has often been criticised for not actually offering anything. He turns up, he plays - but not much else...
Here's how Aston Villa fans reacted on Twitter to his display v United on Saturday:
Another shambolic performance from Mr anonymous again today, Mr anonymous aka Ashley Westwood! what does he do? #AVFC— therowleyranger (@therowleyranger) April 16, 2016
I hope relegation means Guzan, Lescott, Gestede, N'Zog, Westwood, Gabby, Sinclair, Richardson, Bacuna all go #avfc— Phil Maiden (@Phil_Maiden) April 16, 2016
Westwood. Championship class player at best, exposed by departures of more talented midfielders. Hard working but deeply limited. #avfc— Son Lyme (@Son_Lyme) April 16, 2016
Westwood the worst #avfc player yet again, 2 divisions above his level.— Tagmeister (@The_Tagmeister) April 16, 2016
Hope Westwood isn't in our midfield next season. Woeful. #avfc— Rob Jones (@UpTheAstonVilla) April 16, 2016
