The Atletico Madrid manager has been touted as a replacement for Arsene Wenger.
The Argentine manager’s stock has steadily risen over the years after a number of impressive campaigns in charge of the Spanish side.
It jumped to another level this week as his side knocked out reigning Champions League holders Barcelona to reach the semi finals of the competition.
Meanwhile at Arsenal, the pressure has steadily mounted on Arsene Wenger this season as his side look destined to finish the campaign without any silverware.
That has led to many calling for him to be sacked; with Simeone up among those they consider an ideal replacement. And Collymore insists the main doubts about a move are nonsense.
“Some Arsenal fans said “no thanks” when I tweeted Simeone must be considered as a new boss,” he told BoyleSports.
“Some came back with the predictable “he doesn’t fit our style”. What style is that? Just because Atleti defend well and Arsenal don’t, please don’t confuse this as a contrast of styles.”
“Another question raised was “Why would Simeone come to Arsenal?” Atleti are in debt and Arsenal aren’t. A manager worth his salt likes to build a team and Arsenal are in a much better position to do that than Atleti.”
There is no denying that Simeone is up there among the elite level managers in the game at present.
If Wenger were to leave, potentially at the end of next season, that is the area the Gunners would arguably looking in for his replacement and that arguably puts Simeone in their targets.
Whether he is willing to leave Atletico in future, given his clear strong ties to the club, remains to be seen, but there’s no denying that Arsenal would be a tempting offer.
