Benteke, 25, was a star with Aston Villa having scored 49 goals in 101 games, and that record handed him a move to Liverpool last summer, which cost a whopping £32.5m, as reported by BBC Sport at the time.
Whilst the Belgian international was seen as the answer to Liverpool's goalscoring problems from last season, Benteke has struggled to make an impact at Anfield, scoring just eight goals this season.
Now well down the pecking order under manager Jurgen Klopp, there have been suggestions that Benteke could leave the club this summer, with West Ham keen to land him according to The Telegraph.
However, pundit and former Liverpool ace Phil Thompson has been asked by Sky Sports whether he could see Benteke make a shock move across Merseyside to Everton.
Everton could lose star striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, and Thompson was asked whether Benteke could be the ideal replacement for his Belgian international team-mate at Goodison Park.
However, Thompson thinks it's 'highly unlikely' that Liverpool would sell Benteke to Everton, but did wonder whether a Chinese club could splash the cash on the giant striker, as well as Mario Balotelli.
"Football is stranger than ever but I still think it would be highly unlikely that they'd sell to Everton," said Thompson. "I remember back when I was youth team coach we sold Peter Beardsley to Everton and I thought it would come back to bite us, which it did.
"The way the Chinese market is going you'd think that is the most likely source for Liverpool to recoup the fee they spent on him. I'd imagine it will be a similar case for Mario Balotelli," he added.
