The Reds offered up another scintillating European night at Anfield on Thursday, as they roused another famous comeback to overcome Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie between the two sides.
That result saw them reach the semi-finals of the competition, where they are now set to face La Liga side Villareal over two legs.
If Liverpool can reproduce the form they showed against the Germans, then that would surely see them into the final, which would be their second under Jurgen Klopp this season.
For Carragher getting to finals and winning trophies is more important than finishing fourth and securing Champions League football.
“People say that winning the Europa League gives you Champions League, but winning the trophy is most important,” he told talkSPORT. “People go on about the Champions League too much for me. Liverpool got there with Brendan Rodgers and it was a waste of time, to be honest. We got battered and we rested players at the Bernabeu.
“Winning a trophy for Jurgen Klopp would get him off to a great start in his first year and hopefully he can get Liverpool back up to challenging for [league] titles and competing for the Champions League.”
A trophy in his first season would certainly be a strong platform upon which Klopp could build next season.
They face a strong chance of winning the Europa League as well, with Dortmund having been among the favourites for the competition before their defeat to Liverpool.
Villareal will not be pushovers by any means though, and Klopp will surely be keen to drill that into his team when the two sides meet in the semi finals.
