West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic shares what he told Manchester United's staff after yesterday's FA Cup match

West Ham United were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at Upton Park yesterday.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told the club’s official site that he spoke to Manchester United’s staff to praise their performance last night.

The Red Devils unexpectedly knocked West Ham out of the FA Cup, by winning 2-1 at Upton Park.

Louis van Gaal’s side put in an impressive performance to secure their passage to the semi-final, with Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini both getting on the scoresheet.

And Bilic admitted that the visitor’s performance was stronger than his own side’s.

"I spoke to their staff and they said it was by far the best performance from them in the last few months," the Croatian boss said. "They are Manchester United and they are capable of doing that and have done so on a few occasions this season.

“It was the small things we were lacking – composure on the ball and without that you can’t play fluently and that’s what happened in our game. We had our phases but we didn’t have our rhythm and their step was much quicker and stronger than ours.”

Manchester United went into the game on the back of a poor run of form, and their performances had come under heavy criticism.

However, they were a match for the in-form Hammers last night, as they proved their quality.

United were ruthless in front of goal, and they managed to limit West Ham’s attacking threat.

Van Gaal’s side will now take on Everton in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley.
