Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has admitted to the Daily Echo that Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku are both ‘very dangerous’.
Southampton and Everton are due to meet at Goodison Park at the weekend, and Van Dijk is under no illusions as to how tough a test lies ahead for him.
The Dutch international believes that he will have be at his best to combat Everton’s attacking players, as they have so much class in forward situations.
“I’ve seen a lot of games of him already and he’s [Lukaku is] a good striker. He’s going pretty well this season, so I need to make sure I’m ready," he said.
“He’s strong, very athletic, he can finish with his left and right and he’s just a dangerous striker.
“He can jump, hold the ball and he has good link-up with (Gerard) Deulofeu. They’re very dangerous.”
Lukaku and Deulofeu have been two of Everton’s best performers this season, with Roberto Martinez’s side’s attack functioning well.
Unfortunately, Everton’s defensive play has not been anywhere near as effective.
Southampton, on the other hand, still harbour ambitions of claiming a European spot.
The Saints are currently in seventh spot, and if they are able to win on Merseyside it would strengthen their push for a place in the top six.
