Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on 14th April, that he feels Southampton will beat Everton at the weekend.
However, Wilkins does not believe that Everton will be celebrating at full-time - as he feels the Saints have the edge.
“I’m going to go with Southampton to beat them,” the former Aston Villa assistant boss said.
“They’re a really good side. Ronald Koeman has been outstanding as a manager this year.
“Everton need to please their supporters. Those supporters that turn up at Goodison are the ones who put the money into the club and their performances there haven’t been good enough.”
Everton’s home form has been woeful this season, and they are under pressure to start performing better in front of their own fans.
The Toffees’ task of beating Southampton is made all the more difficult, as they have the distraction of playing an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United in the horizon.
Everton take on United in two weekends’ time, and that match will surely be their priority.
However, Martinez can ill-afford to lose to Southampton, with the pressure mounting on him.
If Everton do lose to Southampton, they could slip all the way down to 16th place in the Premier League table, while Koeman’s men potentially could move into fifth spot.
