West Ham United were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at Upton Park yesterday.
Harry Redknapp has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 14th April, that he was shocked that Manchester United controlled the game against West Ham United last night.
Redknapp had expected the Hammers to turn Louis van Gaal’s side over in the FA Cup yesterday.
However, he was surprised when Manchester United went on to pick up a 2-1 victory.
“I thought West Ham would win last night,” Redknapp admitted. “They came back great against Arsenal, and I thought they would beat Manchester United last night.
“But fair play to United, they controlled the game, and it was only when they went 2-0 down that West Ham got up a head of steam and started putting them under pressure.
“Overall, I think you have to be honest, and Man United deserved the win last night.”
United took a two-goal lead at Upton Park yesterday, with Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini putting the hosts into a commanding position.
West Ham did hit back through James Tomkins, but it was too little too late and the Red Devils held on to claim the victory.
United’s performance in the tie was one of their most positive displays in recent weeks, and they will be hoping to build on the performances over the weeks ahead.
The Red Devils will now meet Everton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in two weekends’ time, while West Ham's attention will have to return to their Premier League campaign.
