Dwight Gayle was handed 45 minutes to impress for Crystal Palace against Everton yesterday.
Crystal Palace fans have praised the performance of Dwight Gayle against Everton.
Gayle was actually taken off at half-time in the contest and replaced by Connor Wickham - and Palace fans were left baffled by Alan Pardew’s decision.
The former Peterborough United man had looked bright in the first half of the fixture, but he was not given the opportunity to come back out after half-time.
Palace fans were disappointed to see Gayle go off, with many suggesting he would have scored if he remained on the pitch.
Felt that #cpfc missed out against 10 man Everton. Crazy to take off Gayle. Yala, Connor & Ade not great. But 1 point better than none— Stephen (@sfield3) April 14, 2016
I wasn't over impressed with Bolasie or Cabaye.Thought Gayle had a very good 1st half but2nd half we needed to make our pressure count #cpfc— Jamie Yates (@JamieYates89) April 14, 2016
Also didn't understand the Gayle sub unless he was injured. He had his best half for a long time #Cpfc— Mart (@Cp_mart1n) April 13, 2016
@CPFC he was woeful. Gayle at least got himself involved and got himself into areas where opportunities came up. Terrible sub.— Gordon Reid (@Gordon_Reid1982) April 13, 2016
Frustrating!3pts were there for taking! So slow at end,no tempo, what's wrong with shot at goal!Cabaye knackered, why take Gayle off? #cpfc— Steve Perry (@experryment) April 13, 2016
Punch and Jedi were outstanding tonight, gayle was fantastic in the first half just a shame yala was saving himself for the cameras #CPFC— Jake (@JakeN_25) April 13, 2016
With every passing game I believe people are seeing the importance of dwight gayle the goal machine #Cpfc— Mark Andrews (@WeDoMediaMark) April 13, 2016
Why build up a player, praise him etc and then sub him at half-time? Gayle was playing well #CPFC— Chris Waters (@Clapham_Grand) April 13, 2016
To those jeering Hennessey, shame on you. He kept us in that at times. Gayle sub prob cost us the game. Wickham looked unfit #CPFC— Paul Jempson (@PaulGDJ) April 13, 2016
Palace ended up drawing 0-0 with Everton, and they missed Gayle’s finishing ability, as they created a host of chances in the second 45 minutes.
The Eagles had a numerical advantage for much of the second half, but they were unable to make it count.
Gayle has struggled for starts this season, but Pardew has recently stated that he is the best finisher in his squad.
Palace’s draw with Everton has left them in 16th place in the Premier League table, and they are now able to feel assured of their top flight status.
