The quality of the football in Scotland has surprised new Celtic star Patrick Roberts, he has told the club’s official website.

The winger is currently on loan at the Scottish giants having joined from Manchester City in the January transfer window.

He has had to wait for his chance in the first team but recent weeks have seen him take up a starring role with several impressive performances.

It is often suggested that football in Scotland is not up to the high standards found in the Premier League, or even the Championship, but Roberts says he has been surprised by the quality he has discovered.

“It’s been interesting and not what I expected,” he told the club’s official website.

“People talk about Scottish football but I have found it enjoyable. I have been brought up to play technical football and some people say that’s not what you get up here but I have enjoyed it.”

“We play some good football and have scored some very good goals which are great for the fans to watch.”

Roberts will now be hoping he can continue his recent fine form when Celtic meet Rangers this weekend.

The two sides are set to meet in the Scottish Cup semi final this weekend, with Ronny Deila’s side keen to beat Gers again after enjoying a 2-0 victory last season.

Given Roberts’ recent form, he is likely to play a big role in his sides hopes of victory and will be determined to show that technical side he claims he has been brought in to play.
