The Dutchman has struggled in his time at Old Trafford so far.
United spent, according to The Guardian, £25 million on bringing the player from PSV Eindhoven in May last year.
The Sun reported that Tottenham wanted the Dutchman with reports of Nacer Chadli heading in the opposite direction.
In February 2015, when Depay switched boot and kit provider to become the marquee face of Tottenham Hotspur’s kit supplier Under Armour from the Adidas of Manchester United, it was rumoured that Spurs had won the battle.
But United got their man.
However, does Depay now wish he joined Spurs instead?
The player himself admitted rejecting both Spurs and Liverpool in the summer, as reported by Algemeen Dagblad.
At the weekend he entered as a late substitute as Spurs outclassed United at White Hart Lane in a 3-0 win.
Depay has struggled in the negative philosophy of Louis van Gaal this season and is currently a bench player at Old Trafford.
At Tottenham he would have surely relished under the high-tempo and attacking formation of Mauricio Pochettino and playing with like-minded stars such as Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
With Spurs still fighting for the title and United now looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League then surely Depay must be wondering if he should have given more thought to a Spurs switch.
