Could PSG move for Jose Mourinho and scupper Manchester United plans?

Manchester City knocked PSG out of the Champions League, but are Manchester United going to be the biggest losers?

Manchester City moved into the semi-finals of the Champions League as Kevin de Bruyne's goal gave them a 3-2 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The result was a big win for City, but it was an even more monumental disappointment for PSG, whose season is now effectively over.

Having clinched the Ligue 1 title last month with weeks to spare, the Champions League was their main target, but once again they have been unable to get past the quarter-final stage.

Manager Laurent Blanc will be a manager under pressure as a result, having failed to take PSG to the heights they really aspire.

Given that there is a manager available who has a proven track record in Jose Mourinho, speculation is likely to grow.

Mourinho has won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, and is available after his surprise dismissal by Chelsea earlier this season.

While Laurent Blanc signed a new contract last year, PSG's owners are rich enough not to worry about breaking it.

Mourinho told The Telegraph last year how PSG tried to bring him aboard in 2013, even flying him to Qatar to negotiate, but his mind was already made up to go back to Chelsea. If they get itchy again after the poor result against Manchester City, then it would not be a surprise to see them return for him.

This would leave Manchester United potentially left on the shelf, or stuck with Louis van Gaal. Mourinho has been strongly linked with the Red Devils, but told SkySports at the weekend no deal has been agreed.

If he ends up at PSG, Manchester City's win might just have been the catalyst last night.
