The Leeds United boss has overseen some great performances, but also some dire ones.
Leeds United’s last two performances have proved just what a talented group of players they have.
Despite losing 1-0 to promotion-chasing Burnley, Steve Evans’ side put in a great showing and they followed that up with a 2-1 victory against Birmingham City, denting their play-off hopes in the process.
Leeds have gone on a few great runs this season only to suffer a string of defeats that drain the morale of players and fans alike. But their last two performances have spoken of better things to come, of a side that can go toe-to-toe with the best the division has to offer.
Next season that will be vital, with Leeds needing to go on a promotion charge of their own after too long out of the top flight, but while the quality of the players is not in doubt on recent evidence, there remains a very big question regarding consistency.
Leeds can deliver impressive showings against the division’s high flyers but do they have the mentality to go on one long run rather than a few small ones blighted by too many setbacks?
Only time will tell, but that is arguably the biggest decision for Leeds owner Massimo Cellino this summer: Does he trust Evans to get consistency out of these players? Because there is no doubt they perform brilliantly for him…just not week in, week out or at least not yet.
