Report: Arsenal join Manchester United in scouting Renato Sanches

The young star has impressed for Benfica this season, but will cost big money to sign.

Arsenal have joined Manchester United in scouting highly rated Benfica youngster Renato Sanches, reports the Daily Mail.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been linked with the young star for several months, with a number of reports claiming they will pay big for his signature this summer.

They have been keeping a regular eye on his progress via scouting missions, and were in the stands on Saturday afternoon to watch him play in his side’s clash with Academica.

They were not the only Premier League side in attendance though, as scouts from rivals Arsenal joined them to watch him play, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners will have been impressed by what they saw as well, as the 18-year-old put in a man of the match display in the 2-1 victory.

The two sides are not the only ones interested in his signature either, with his impressive performances having caught the eye of teams around Europe.

One stumbling block to any prospective move is Benfica’s asking price however, with the release clause in his current contract thought to be close to £60 million, The Mail reported earlier this year.
