Aston Villa will do very well in the Championship, says Tim Sherwood

The Villans are set to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa will do very well in the Championship next season, Tim Sherwood has told Match of the Day 2, broadcast from 10:30pm, April 10.

The Villans are set to be relegated from the Premier League this season after a disastrous campaign to date.

Many are predicting that next season could be just as bad for them, with a number of relegated teams having found the Championship a difficult division to compete in.

Not Sherwood though, who instead believes that there is enough quality in their much maligned squad to see them do very well.

Although, he does concede that Villa will need to add players to their squad, and preferably create an English core in the side.

“I think that they’ve got a lot of players at that club who are equipped to play in the Championship,” he told Match of the Day 2.

“I think they will do very well, but I think they also need to add some players who know the league. I think they [also] need to get a core of English players around the football club.

“I believe that the future could be bright, I’m sure they’re making the right moves to get that club back where they belong.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how Villa fare in the Championship next season given how poor they have been in this campaign.

Much is likely to rest on who they appoint as their next manager, with the general consensus being that they need a boss who is well accustomed to the division.

If they can secure such a man, and more importantly he can do sufficient transfer business, there is no denying that the future can be a bright one for the club, despite the dark days of this season.
